The Lodge
In addition to providing accommodation for the servants Gate Lodges were also an indication to the passer-by the good standing and taste of the owner, and were designed to display some of the features of the architect's work re-interpreted from the big house.
Even though much has changed since the coachman, Patrick Allen, lived here in 1901 we have maintained many of the old features in the restoration. The floor area of the living quarters is now 115 Mts Sq. The ground floor of this self catering accommodation consists of a fully fitted kitchen complete with electrict cooker and dishwasher, a living room with a large sofa bed, armchairs, dining table, and chairs, TV, and a solid fuel wood burning stove; and a ground floor bathroom complete with toilet, walk in shower and washing/dryer machine. The upper floor has two bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with two double beds, and an en-suite with toilet and shower.
The accommodation is fully central heated. It has all the advantages of self catering accommodation: safe for children, secure car parking, outside space with garden furniture, barbecue facilities, and covered external drying space.
Visitors are welcome to wander and explore the gardens which have been planted over the last hundred years and have a mixture of native and non native plants, shrubs, and trees.
